OC Public Health Director in Charge of Covid-19 Testing Unexpectedly Resigns and Retires

David M. Souleles, Director of Orange County Public Health Services announced his retirement on April 23.

Mr. Souleles was in charge of Covid-19 testing in the county and exactly one day after Orange County rolled out a Covid-19 testing plan he publicized his retirement.

Mr. Souleles worked for the county for 16-years and cited in his resignation that he wanted to spend more time with family.

In an email sent to county public health staff Souleles said, “I have made the decision to resign from my position with the OC Health Care Agency and retire from government service after more than 16 years with the County of Orange and nearly 32 years of professional experience working in public health, effective May 2, 2020.”

In March the county Public Health Department also saw the sudden resignation of Health Care Agency Director Richard Sanchez. Sanchez left the health agency to take over as CEO of CalOptima.

Currently the county officials from the Orange County Public Health Department are interviewing candidates and a director is expected to be named soon.
